We have been commissioned to open a new secure service for women originating from Yorkshire. Many of these women are currently placed out of area. Phase 1, comprising a 14-bed facility is scheduled for opening in February 2020 and we require an exceptional Occupational Therapist to help create and deliver this new service. This is a great opportunity to join a new service as it starts. You will be joining at a time where new ideas, organisational abilities and clinical knowledge will be welcomed in creating the right values, culture and standards.
The MDT is led by a well-regarded Forensic Consultant with substantial experience in delivering women’s services and who has been a member of the national review team for Women’s Services. Our people are our only asset and as a Senior Occupational Therapist on a new service you will have a huge part to play in developing this new service and in ensuring that we deliver a safe and effective service, which patients and their families regard highly. You will be supported by a well-resourced MDT consisting of Nurses, Support Workers Forensic Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Social worker, Family Therapist and their assistants.
You will be either a qualified Senior Occupational Therapist or a band 5 Occupational Therapist wanting to take the next step on your career path and have experience working within a Forensic or similar challenging area and have a real passion for developing your skills in an ever changing environment. Both flexible and adaptable to the needs of the patient you will have a real desire to improve the lives of those around you and take a real satisfaction in making a difference. We are ideally looking for someone with experience in Mental Illness but will consider other experiences.
Responsibilities and Duties
•Act as a Named Occupational therapist for identified patient(s) - ensuring all aspects of Care Planning are implemented and reviewed according to relevant protocols
•Ensure all reports and risk assessments are concise accurate and clearly documented in line with the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct (College of Occupational Therapists 2010) relevant, clearly identified and risk management plans are clear and consistent
•Ensure that you make professional contributions to MDT decisions
•Ensure that you complete and contribute to formal risk assessment documentation.
•Ensure that all standards of ward procedure are implemented to the highest standard
•Assist the Director/ Team Leaders in ensuring that all Clinical documentation/procedures comply with all applicable legislation including report writing
•Attend and take part in Ward Rounds, CPA’s and other meetings as required.
•Ensure correct procedures take place for the Admission and Discharge of Patients
•To chair meetings such as morning handover and team meetings.
•To provide supervision to junior staff
•To deliver formal psychological interventions following appropriate training
