Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist

We are extending our services and invite applications for the position of Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist within a 110-bed local independent Forensic Mental Health Hospital located in Doncaster South Yorkshire.  You would be joining a team of 4 experienced forensic consultants and joining an organisation that was recently rated as GOOD by the CQC.

This is a small, friendly and well-regarded service.  We are not owned by foreign hedge funds or venture capitalists; rather we are locally owned with strong people and service values.  We have no debt.  We work in partnership with the NHS to develop a range of excellent facilities for our patients and staff.  We are currently opening some new pathway services and wish to extend our psychiatrist team in a secure environment.  Our people are what makes us unique and it is our shared values that ensure we provide the best care and environment for our patients to thrive and develop  As a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist you will have a significant part to play in delivering those common goals and leading service multi-disciplinary teams.

Job Requirements Essential

  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council

  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up the post

  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent

  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview

  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.

  • Prior experience working in a forensic mental health team

  • Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings

  • Ability to take a leadership role in a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality care

  • Ability to manage own time, workload and prioritise clinical work

  • Ability to appraise own performance as a consultant

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Able to communicate effectively with patients, carers and staff

  • Understanding of the management skills required to function successfully as a consultant


Job Requirements Desirable


  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications

  • Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills

  • Additional Clinical Qualifications

  • Evidence of additional teaching skills

  • Experience as a lecturer or Supervisor
