CQC Unannounced Inspection

Dear Colleagues,

As you know we had an unannounced CQQ inspection yesterday, our first for two years. As is the usual pattern three inspectors turned up in reception just before 9am unannounced. They visited the wards and spent time meeting patients both on the wards and at the patient’s council. The inspection visit went very well indeed and the following comments were made by the lead inspector Sharon Kelly.

"This has been a very very positive visit." There have been a great number of improvements since our last inspection – not only in the big things but in a 100 smaller things as well."

A number of minor points were raised and a number of queries which I will be responding to. However, these appear to be tweaking of the service rather than any major changes or improvements being required.

I am confident that we will get a good report this year. The report will be displayed on the CQC website and will provide Commissioners, patients and their families with further positive evidence that Cheswold Park Hospital is delivering a very good service to patients. The CQC also gathers information from external bodies such as our Commissioners Adult Protection Teams and also they look at all the evidence they have received from us prior to the visit in terms of our annual return demonstrating how we are meeting all of the CQC standards.

I would therefore like to take this opportunity of thanking everyone who has done so much to improve the service over the last two years and also those who were on duty on the day, yesterday, and gave a good account of themselves and the work that we do here at the hospital.

It was of note that the Commissioners had read our recent Quality audit report from the Royal College of Psychiatrists and this gave further independent evidence of the quality of our service.

This, therefore is a moment for all staff at the hospital to pause and reflect that not only did we come top in the Country two years running in our independent Royal College of Psychiatrists audit but we are also in line to get a good CQC report. Of further note is that the quarterly quality returns that we have to deliver to our Commissioners to demonstrate what we are doing and value for money are positive in that we are 100% meeting all of the quality requirements that they have set all services across Yorkshire and Humber and East Midlands.
